Northwestern's Coble will forgo his senior season

Evanston, IL (Sports Network) - Northwestern forward Kevin Coble has opted to forgo his senior season, leaving the team without one of its best players.

Coble led the Wildcats in scoring and rebounding in each of his three seasons, but did not play in 2009-10 after suffering a left foot injury in preseason practice.

Coble said that his recovery from that injury and the subsequent surgery is most important.

"I will continue to follow my surgeon's rehabilitation schedule and have been told by my surgeon that I will have a full recovery," Coble said. "I will not be transferring to another school and with that, will be finishing the last of my classes at Northwestern this fall."

Coble is set to earn a degree in political science this December.

In 81 career games with the Wildcats, Coble averaged 14.9 points and 5.1 rebounds. He was named to the All-Big Ten second team his junior year.

"We wish Kevin nothing but the best in his future endeavors," Northwestern head coach Bill Carmody said. "We want to thank him for his contributions to the program over the past four years."
